So what is the purpose of a Moderator event? Are they playing on company time? Why cant they drive their own ships on their own time, which presumably they have bought and paid for, like the rest of the straight up players?

There are a few reasons as to why there is a Moderator Event; it gives the players a chance to sink and take out their frustration on the moderators, there are some good rewards to be earned, players have requested it, and it is a rare event that has taken place since Seafight began.

Let me be 100% clear; Moderators are volunteers who dedicate their free time to keeping the forum and chat a friendly and enjoyable place for all players, as well as providing accurate information when answering players questions. Therefore, they are not playing on company time but playing in their own free time as usual.

Moderators sail their regular ships each day, which as you have stated, they have bought and paid for items on just like any other player. However, they shall be able to sail a moderator ship for the duration of the event. This is due to many reasons, including but not limited to; not every moderator having an account on the servers the event will take place, the need for uniform ships so that the rankings are fair, and preserve moderator anonymity, among others.

like ive spoken with ya on chat yday , you dont have to worry about anything . They will wear [Mod] tag on seachart just keep your ant tag on and you will be fine.

 

that would take more than a few sinks ,,,maybe a boxing match ??

As you fellow pirate has stated, all moderators will be in the [Mod] Guild, so players will be able to tell you apart from the Moderators.
