    Hello, I've wondered for a while what gems are most useful in PVP, on my pet I used to use dodge chance, but now I changed to damage prevention and saw a drastic change against NPC, but is it good against players as well? Or is dodge chance better against players? Also, should I add more HP to my ship instead of dodge chance if it is bad to use it in PVP? I haven't played this game regurarely in like 6-7 years so I don't know much of these gems and new canons

    Generally Damage Prevention = PVE & PVP
    Dodge = PvP

    Damage prevention reduces damage % of all the cannon balls that hit
    Dodge reduces the amount of cannon balls that hit

    The way I understood it was Damage prevention is applied all of the time for every shot that hits you, Dodge chance reduces hit probability so is only effective when your dodgechance is high enough to bring a players hit probability below 100% (I think generally Admiral NPCs have such a high Hit Probability that using dodge against them is useless) If a players hit probability is already below 100% I think is when dodge is most useful as all of your dodge chance reduces their probability.

    If the way I understand it is correct, In combination using dodge and damage prevention lowers their chance of hitting you, and then reduces the damage of the remaining shots that hit you.

    As Per HP Gems, i'd also say they were NPC only gems, A replacement for dodge when you're trying to hunt big event admirals - Or if you cant build up enough dodge chance to be effective I used HP instead

    But do you know what is better to use on your pet against players, dodge chance or damage prevention? I'm using hit probability as the second gem for my pet so I only got room for one of the two, cause when I shoot NPCs I have a pre-setting where I use dodge chance and damage prevention but for PVP I gotta use hit probability so I need to pick one of the two but don't know which has the best value for recieving less damage from players.

    I just use hit probability and dodge for pvp. critical prob and dmg prevention for npcs. but thats depending what your hit probability is because i have everything maxed

    It is really dependent on your current setup and the most likely setup for the players you'll be PvPing.

    If your hit probability is below 100% Put hit probability on, this helps you with NPCs and will counter some of the PvP dodge but only a small amount

    If your hit probability is above 100% Go for dodge you can use hailstorms to raise your hit probability an extra +10% (don't forget this does reduce cannon range) so if your base is already above 100% you can use hailstorms when your opponent has high dodge (not everyone does) to get the extra cannon hits, and you will also have the dodge gem working to prevent their shots aswell.

    If your hit probability is above but currently 0% dodge think about going for Damage Prevention instead most large players will sit around 100%-120% hit probability, having just the pet gem dodge on and no skills/castle or smokescreen also boosting your dodge can mean some players you face will not even be affected by your dodge chance as their hit probability will still be above 100%.

    Obviously as stated earlier it depends on your castles, your skills, your gem levels even your cannons you need to take into account so just take the above as a very general guide - it might even be worth thinking about going crit chance and crit damage as that can give a big edge in PvP especially if you have high level devastator cannons

    However, if you would like more indepth advice you can always make another post with more details of your ship this was how I originally learned how to build my ship when I came back after many years.

    Well my castles and skills are maxed with dodge chance and right now I have 143% hit probability, so I guess I should go with dodge chance instead of damage prevention. Skyliner said he also uses dodge for PVP so I guess that it is more useful than damage prevention against players

    I'd like to split the gem set-up between two fases in the game. One is before we had dragon powder (15% hitchance over regular gunpowder that has only 10%) and after dragon powder was released;

    Before dragonpowder:
    Ship: Hitchance, Cannon DMG, DMG prevention and Dodge.
    Pet: Hitchance , Dodge

    After dragonpowder:
    Ship: Hitchance, Cannon DMG, DMG prevention and Dodge.
    Pet: Dodge, DMG prevention

    The 5% more hitchance on dragonpowder made me choose to remove the PET hit chance gem. And yes I know this is a way higher percentage, but generally not many people have surpassed 40% dodge chance, and with everyone having all the buffs (polished muzzles etc) I feel having more hitchance won't increase my overall damage. The more important part is that incomming PVP / PVE damage is a lot lower. But thats how I experience it.

    best,
    Danny

    If you have 143% Hit Probability I'd definitely follow what infinity said and just get rid of your hit probability gem from your pet and have both Damage Prevention & Dodge

    Opponent Hit probability & Dodge chance varies a lot when you're PvPing so having the ability to quickly slap on some extra hit probability (through dragonpowder & hailstorms) when you know your opponent is going to have high dodge is a very important boost as it is toggleable meaning you dont have to waste the extra hit chance on people who have no dodge.

    The maximum value of dodge is 75% - 21.5% comes from Smoke,Skill&Castle so you can assume that Majority of players (Especially during event) have around 20% Dodge chance when in PvE mode and not expecting to PvP, When they switch to a PvP setup
    the chance is they may have 1 Dodge gem on either their ship or their pet, That raises Potential dodge chance up to around 40% (Agility Trainer would increase this an extra 15% to 55%)

    So assuming that majority of players will have 20% Dodge & Larger players who are in PvP mode also will have 40-55% Dodge, This means when you have a hit probability of 140% - Every time you come up to a player with 20% Dodge your will have a hit probability of 120% if you add Hailstorms and Dragon Powder thats 135% - 35% of which is just Wasted- Thats the same as both your Ship Hit Probability gem and your pet hit probability gem being made redundant. whereas if you had the extra dodge/damage prevention and just equipped hailstorms & dragonpowder when required less hitprobability will be made redundant.

    just wanna add in that I have 143 probability thanks to the pet gem, meaning that it will go down to 126% if I remove it. Not sure if you took that into account so just wanna double check. So is it still worth going for dodge or not?

    Yeah i assumed in the 143 that included your pet gem

    I also assumed - Black Powder is on at all times (+10%) Which is why the increase is only +5% when switching

    So 126 + 10% Hailstorm + 5% Powder Upgrade = 141% Hit Probability, roughly the same but instead you can turn it on/off
