Event Chests

I have 3 event chest keys, but every time I try to open one I'm informed that I need a key to open it. What gives?

 

If there are two events running at the same time (Jolly Roger and Ice in the Sunshine today) there will be different types of event chests which require different keys.

 

Klein is right, there are different keys for different chests. at the moment, there are 3 types of chests on the sea.

Normal chests- requires a normal treasure chest key to open- are GREY in colour
Event chests (ice in the sunshine event)- requires an event key to open- are ORANGE in colour
Lion chests (freedom event)- requires a lion key to open- are BLUE in colour

From the description you gave, it sounds like you need to open the orange chests if you would like to use your keys

You can check how many keys you have (and which type) in ship overview -> depot

Your event key should look like this, with description "event key"

How to get "event key"?

 

Event keys can be purchased for pearls from the shop on the water.
