    Ahoy With-Dignity!

First of I would recommend you to level up your boat and complete as many season tasks as you can to gain some progress and to upgrade your ship at the same time.

Please take a look at our
Seafight Bible Index where you can find answers to most of your questions.

Hi, the basic quests start in the safe haven; find the characters in there and sail to near them, click on the character and it should reveal a quest for you to do. once you have completed task then return to the right character in the safe haven and you should be able to redeen your reward. continue to do this and your ship will get better

Got to level 7 and the pain has begun.

Not really sure what I can do getting sunk literally every minute and then respawning and getting sunk again before I even get a chance to do anything... I mean I get it's a pirate game and all that jazz but honestly why is there is no maps where I can build up my boat? and most importantly why is there is no respawn at safe haven option so I can avoid getting chain sunk??

When I started playing in 2009, there were 13 PvE maps (non-fighting maps). It was great for building your boat up! Then they reduced the PvE maps to only 4. Then to zero. Then still at zero, but with a limited amount of (and time duration of) "Auras of Protection". I'm sure it's miserable to play as a new player (or returning one).:(

Read the seafight bible. Then play in Europe global 7 (PVE surver) for 3-4 months. And then play on PVP server.

Not in July of 2009 (when I first started playing, and have never stopped). The PvE areas consisted of Maps 1/1 to 1/4, 2/1 to 2/4, 3/1 to 3/4, and 4/1. Then, it later was reduced to only Maps 1/1 through 1/4. Then they eliminated them altogether. I remember this very distinctly, since I was a noob just starting out, and played daily building my boat (and hiding in those maps)!:)

That's how I remember it too. I started in July 2009 as well.

We've both had a loooong time to try to understand how this game works and what the best ways are to build your ship. I say 'try', because it's been a moving target with a steady stream of new elements, equipment, etc. and yet I feel like I understand maybe half of it. I would absolutely hate to be coming into this game now and trying to figure it out from scratch.

So, to the OP, my advice would be to make a decision now on whether you have the time, energy, commitment to go somewhere with this game before you decide to spend anything. Your progress will be slower, but you won't have the pressure of trying to 'get your money's worth' by staying with it when you don't really want to. If you decide to commit later, you will know then what you need to buy to get ahead.

I won't veer much on this so I don't get off the thread's original comments, but you are exactly right. "Try". <--(The key word). I am always "trying" to optimize my boat by studying the SF Bible, Patchday Notes, etc. To do that means "trying" to optimize parameters like "Damage prevention". Well - unfortunately for me - I now know that of the 12 parameters for "Damage prevention", one fourth of them don't show up in your boat's statistics! If you put on Armor, Super Armor, and the Aventurine Special Ship Gem ("Increases the Plates of Armor bonus by 5%"), and then you spy yourself both before and after by clicking the "blue" button and getting all of your stats, you will find out your DP stays the same (it should increase 10%+10%+5% = 25%). It doesn't! This kind of takes the challenge out of the game. :( (Now back to the regularly-scheduled thread).
