Rymar, not long ago my rank dropped and I asked why, you told me that I needed to do the Rift map in order to keep my rank or it would drop. I read all the posts on the Rift after the changes. Mr. Amber said in one of his replies about the Rift changes that he finds it boring and doesn't play it, and if people don't like it, they can just not play it. (A rather terse answer, I'm afraid. A little more patience on mod's part might be more appropriate.) It's no surprise that some are upset with the change. I don't particularly like it either, lol. Anyway, I'm asking here if I really need to do the Rift in order to sustain my rank?
I played it today and even using super armored plates along with all the rest of available protection I was not able to finish it, I was sunk on wave 27, I believe. Does this hurt my rank? If so, then mod's suggestion to "just don't play it if you don't like it" means we are penalized rank because of the new difficulty level. This hardly seems fair. BTW, I am not upset nor do I look for confrontation, only an answer to this simple question regarding rank requirement. Thank you.

    Ahoy Tergrinder!

Okay so, firstly lets take a look at the pirate rank calculation formula for better understanding, such formula can be found at:

Event (star) menu -> Hall of Fame -> Your Rank

    upload_2026-1-8_11-39-57.png

As you can see both Rift (B) and Login Streak (E) are quite important within this calculation.

In order to keep your Rift you need to do it once per week, the higher wave you score, the higher number will be placed within the calculation (20 waves done = 20, 30 waves done = 30).

You need to be aware that your Rift part of this calculation resets every Tuesday (as your rift progression is restarted on that day).

So losing "30" points within the Rift - that later create one of the multipliers "B" - is quite huge.

So to answer your question if Rift is "required" to "sustain your pirate rank" - yes, it is.

However everything is up to you, as a player, do you care about the badge on left side of your ship? I personally don't, that's why I am doing Rift only during seasons, not outside of it. So for me Rift is just an addition to the game that I simply skip on.

In order to see a bit more in-detail information please hover your mouse over the formula, it will display all ELP / EXP etc. currently found on your account.

If your Rift = 0 that mean you've lost your Rift progression - and if you wish to regain these lost points you'll have to complete the rift once again.

Within your post you also stated that you failed on wave 27, that's odd because I can do all 30 waves without any major problems on my end (not upgraded to the max yet lol), so perhaps you do something wrong? Do you want to discuss that part too?

Feel free to ask any further questions, however please be aware that I do 12 hour shifts so my response time may be delayed.

Thank you for the detailed explanation. It seems the amount of damage that the npcs inflict is greatly increased. Also, my speed is reduced while theirs is increased. So I got slammed down to a point where it was impossible for me to rep back to health as I couldn't get away. The worms that steal your ability to control your ship are particularly tough as before I could use my Unstoppable buff and it would regenerate in time to be of use again later. But using it once now, with the higher NPC HP, it takes too long to regenerate to be of use in that wave, and so I sank in that wave. BTW, it would be great if the wave number would be posted above like other info, like its posted in the bonus maps ("batten down the hatches, wave 10 has appeared"), as it would help to remember what comes next. Running and repping is not really fun and in my opinion, anyway, has taken the amusement out of the Rift map - it's much more of a grind now. Maybe an adjustment to a bit less difficulty while still retaining a decent challenge would be something the Devs would consider... Anyway, just my thoughts. Thanks for your response to my question. :)

    Hello there Pirate,

You mention the use of the 'Unstoppable' within rift to disable the Rift tormentor effect (you refer to 'worms')
You may find it of use that the item 'Blood of Inya' will also disable such effects
Also the Captain's manoeuvre 'Voodoo Purification' has a similar effect.

If you have all three available then by the time you have used them all its most likely that enough time passes for regeneration and re-use of such items.

Thank you Mr. Amber. I'm not familiar with the Captain's item Voodoo Purification, I've still (after months...) not figured out how the Captains chests, etc. works. Someday... thanks again :)

The master skill voodoo hoodoo is also helpful to regen vp
Order you kill npcs is also important, try killing raging rift lurker first after wave 26.
Personally just get smashed on wave 30, cat run away to repair and as 2 lurkers, cant kill them , there must be a trick to learn just not figured it out yet.
