For example, if you have all Level 0 Painbringer cannons, you will get a +50 Elite Ammunition bonus, plus an additional 50% Elite Ammunition bonus percentage. This creates a total value of a +75 Elite Ammunition bonus per cannon.

Another example: If half of your cannons are Level 0 Painbringers, and the other half are 50 Pounders, you will only receive an extra 25% Elite Ammunition bonus. This creates a total value of a +62.5 Elite Ammunition bonus per Painbringer cannon.

Would you explain these two examples mentioned above by Seren - using real numbers? I am trying to make sense of all of these elite cannon pros and cons. Thank you for your time!

    Ahoy,

The "Elite ammunition bonus" percentage value which is provided by Painbringers is an Average. So when all your cannons are Level 0 Painbringers, you will receive the full 50% Bonus.

Now, if you do not have a full set of Painbringers, this value changes based on the amount you have on. If you have 100 Cannons total, 10 are Painbringers, you will receive one 10th of the bonus (5%), if you have 50 painbringers you will receive half of the bonus (25%), etc.

This Elite Ammunition Percentage Bonus applies to all items which give an "Elite Ammuniton Bonus" Value. Painbringers Level 0 have 50 Elite Ammunition Bonus, 50-lb Cannons give 0 Elite Ammuntion Bonus, Doomhammers Level 5 gives 150 Elite Ammuntion Bonus, etc.

So for the examples listed; in the first the account has a full set of Painbringers level 0, no other cannons. This means that each cannon gives its normal 50 Elite ammuntion bonus plus an additional 50% (as it has the full bonus), which makes a total of 75 Elite Ammuntion Bonus instead of the normal 50 per cannon.

The second example, only half of the cannons are Painbringers, so that means that you only get half of the Bonus Percentage increase per cannon (which would be 25%). As the Painbringers give a normal value of 50 per cannon, you will get 50 + 25%, which is 62.5. The 50 pounder cannons though do not provide any Elite Ammunition bonus, so do not get any additional benefit.

I hope this has helped clarify this for you, if you would like further clarification please do not hesitate to let us know :)

Thanks...I apologize for wearing you out! But could you use real numbers for these examples. Like say for Scenario 1 (all Painbringers) using explosive ammo hits for 75 points times the number of cannons, etc. versus Scenario 2 where you have....? I wanted a feel for the damage difference.

    Ahoy,

Elite Ammunition Bonus, which is the stat we are referring too, does not effect any damage done by the ammunition, and is independant of other stats like Cannon Damage %'s, Damage Prevention, etc.

Elite Ammunition Bonus is a flat amount of damage which is added onto your final hit if you are using Elite Ammunition, if you are using Gold Ammunition you don't get the bonus damage. So the values I have posted above are in fact real numbers. This value comes mainly from your cannons as you can see in the following picture:

I am unable to provide you with a detailed damage output comparison as there are too many variables. I can only provide you with descriptions of how individual sections are calculated, it is then up to each player to take this information can decide which cannons are better or not.

I can however, if you so wish, move this thread to the New Pirates Tutorials section of the forum so that this post can remain open and other players can leave their opinions and thoughts should they wish.

So I think the bonus you are referring to is just ELP points like we get from Admiral cannons? (Or in other words, NOT 75 points from regular explosive cannonballs plus 37.5 more points in damage). Otherwise, I will ask you to move this thread. Thanks!:) P.S. But I think you mean ELP points.

    Ahoy,

As I am not referring to ELP, I shall as requested, move this thread to the New Pirates Tutorial Section for your fellow pirates to assist if they can.

    Hey,

Maybe I can help a little bit.

As Swift says, Elite ammunition bonus is damage which has nothing to do with your ammo, your cannon damage bonuses, criticals, etc.

From every cannon released after Admiral Cannons, they have had a value called "Elite Ammunition Bonus". This number is an extra amount of damage which is added if and only if you are using any type of elite ammunition.

A small example. You have 1 Cannon, a Level 5 Doomhammer. You have over 100% Hit Probability, you have Cunning Cannon Boost (5% Cannon Damage) and you are using Flares.

You would get 75 Damage for the Flares, you would also get 5% more because of your Cunning Cannon Boost, 78.75 Damage Total. However, you are using an Elite Ammo, so the "Elite Ammunition Bonus" which is provided by the Doomhammer is also added, that value is 150, giving you a total damage from 1 cannon of 228.75.
    (75*1.05)+150 = 228.75

Now, the special effect of a Painbringer is not just an Elite ammunition bonus absolute value, but also a percentage value!
Painbringer Level 0: 50 Elite Ammunition Bonus, 50% Elite Ammunition Bonus.
This means that you get an extra 50% on what you would normally get!

So lets change that previous example to a Painbringer cannon. You will still get the same damage for the ammo and cannon boosts, 75 for the flares + an extra 5% for the cunning cannon boost. This time, instead of the Doomhammers 150 Elite Ammunition Bonus, you are only getting 50. However, the painbringer also has that percentage increase, so you get an extra 50% ontop of the already mentioned 50, which is 75. Giving you a total damage of 153.75
    (75*1.05)+(50*1.5) = 153.75

One thing I haven't mentioned yet is that the Elite Ammunition Bonus Percentage Value is an Average! That means that the highest it can possibly be is 50%, but it can go lower depending on how many other cannons you have equipped!

If you have 1 Painbringer and 9 Doomhammers, you would not get "50% Elite ammunition bonus", you would get a fraction of that additional damage. Firstly, we need to calculate what percentage of your cannons are Painbringers, to do that we do AmountOfPainbringers / TotalEquippedCannons, which is 1/10, equalling 10%. We then need to see how much Elite ammunition bonus percentage will we get, well to do this we take the maximum amount (50%) and times that by the percentage (10%), which gives 5%.
    (1/10)*0.5=0.05 [5%]

Okay, so now we know how to calculate the Percentage Value, we know what the Absolute Value does. How does it fit together and work?

So first, we need to add up all the Absolute Values of the Cannons (and possibly other items like the +1000 Elite ammunition bonus pet special gem) and get the total. Then this value is increased by the Percentage Value we have learned to calculate.

Lets use a similar example to the last couple; Flare Ammunition (75 Damage), Cunning Cannon Boost, 100% Hit Probability, 1 Painbringer Cannon (50 Elite Ammo Absolute Value and 50% Elite Ammo Percentage Value) and 9 Level 0 Doomhammers (75 Elite Ammo Absolute Value). We calculate the same way we have above.

    (TotalCannonAmount * CannonBallDamage * (1 + CannonDamageBoosts)) + (((PainbringerEliteAmmoAbsoluteBonus * PainbringerAmount) + (Level0DoomhammerEliteAmmoAbsoluteBonus * Level0DoomhammerAmount)) * ( 1 + (PainbringAmount / TotalCannonAmount) * PainbringerEliteAmmoPercentageBonus))

    (10 * 75 * (1 + 0.05)) + (((50 * 1) + (75 * 9)) * ( 1 + (1 / 10) * 0.5)) = 1548.75

Although these look complicated, the main thing to take away from them is that all the Elite Ammunition bonus is completetly independant of the rest of the calculation. Add all the Absolute Values, increase by the Percentage Value (which depends how many cannons you have on which provide that increase), that is the extra amount of damage you gain for using Elite Ammo. The actual damage you get from your ammo and cannon boosts etc is seperate and these are added together at the end, multiplied by the Hit Probability and that gives you your total damage.

Some other threads I talked about Elite ammunition bonus, percentage values, absolute values and average values in general:

Thanks -ARKY...I was thinking a few hours ago that I wondered where you had gone (seriously). Due to your example, I have a much better grasp on it! And I thank you for taking all of that time to write down this detailed explanation for me. It is very much appreciated! (Plus thanks for the links)!
P.P.S. My first inclination when learning about the painbringers (besides my griping) was that a full boat of them versus a full boat of Level 5 Dooms will be stronger (thus the reason to buy them). Would you agree in general?

Been busy with all this new stuff on sf, events, quests, etc to be honest and there isnt many threads on here that i feel I need to help with now lol

I am glad that my examples helped, sometimes descriptions alone arent quite enough, you need to see some figures and how its working too I think, at least that helps me :p

Well, a full set of Level 0 Painbringers would do the same damage as a full set of Level 0 Doomhammers, but a much quicker reload.

Personally, I would wait until level 1, maybe 2 before I would stop using Doomhammers level 4/5
