I am running into an issue greatly affecting my growth in the game which is the lack of accessibility to resources. 1 maps are filled with bots some of which are big boats but never move up and 1-5 maps where I can at least have newbie protection is filled with Shiny bots that leave very little and NPC Bots that can steal your kills in getting gold and shinies. With this environment I cannot see many new players sticking around just on those barriers alone.

My question is if I move beyond the protection of the 1-5 maps will there be less bots to deal with going up from 6 and beyond? The same? More? My boat runs the risk of being woefully outclassed in those maps but it seems I'm in a hard spot if I do and a hard spot if I don't. Will my opportunity for resources outweigh the risks?

I would move up if I were you. I don't know what server your on, but on my server since they came out with the harrowstorm map there are not as many ships in 8-4 since the bloodfang and blizzards hit them and are quite annoying.

i would stay in 1-5 maps until you are bigger and have better cannons, i just recently went through the same problem you are facing and decided to advance into level 6 and beyond. there are better rewards but i moved up too quick and am being sunk constantly and so i end up back in lower maps anyway and now can't collect on shinnies in 1 maps. better to go into raid maps or scrolls and keep safety of newbie protection. best of luck to you and happy sailing :)
