    In the FAQ it says:

If the NPC is Boardable, it will have the Boarding Symbol next to its name. If it's Hitpoints are higher than your Boarding Threshold these symbol will be in dark colours as shown:

When the NPC is below the required Hitpoints for the Boarding Threshold, then this symbol shall light up and be shown in lighter colours:

However, I see some NCP that are at full rep and cannot be boarded, yet have the red background symbol instead of the black. Others of the same type can have black, so its not based on the NCP type. These are not admirals (Renown for example) so haven't repaired.

    Any explanation?

    Ahoy,

There is a bug where sometimes NPCs have the incorrect boarding symbol when they spawn, however the correct meaning of both is as described in the FAQ.

Also, regular NPC's such as Warriors or Renowns can also repair after a period of time.

    Has this answered your query?

Thanks for the info. I figured it was more likely a visual glitch than a different boarding status, but its good to have it confirmed.

I thought only admirals would stop and repair (ie the ships with the fancy life bar vs the ones with the plain life bar)? Is that mentioned anywhere in the FAQ?

    Ahoy,

That is not mentioned in the FAQ. Each individual NPC may have the ability to repair and many do, this is down to the choice of the Designers.

Has this now answered your queries?
