Bought canon and expansion slots, still can't equip more stuff.

Hello everyone! I feel extraordinarily stupid for asking something like this but I did some looking up and couldn't find an answer. I'm a new player, picked this game up today and played for an hour or so. I'm level three, and by doing a little digging on guides and the like I saw that you can buy weapon and expansion slots with gold, so I dumped as much as i had there thinking I would be able to equip more canons and become stronger. Hower the slots seem to be doing nothing. I leavea screenshot from my game, showing that I only have the 10 default canon slots even though I've bought 51 more. What gives? Am I locked to the default 10 slots somehow? Does the ship design affect this? I genuinly looked everywhere I could in game and found no indiciation as to why I can't equip more things. Thank you in advance for any respones, and sorry I'm being stupid by asking this

Maps between 1 - 5 are known to be Equalized - your ship speed, weapon slots, expansions slots, damage given / received is the same like all players that you encounter within these maps.

Your ship's full potential can be achieved once you switch to map 6+.

Upon looking up your print screen I've noted that you've set 5 Lava Cannons on your boat - please remove them. These are of no use on regular maps. Lava Cannons are designed to work only within the Ragnarok and require Lava Ammunition (ragnarok only too) to actually fire.
