    I know that a "Critical Hit" displays as a black and red fireball. And that it is greater in damage than a regular volley. But what exactly is the definition for "Critical Damage"? For example (using Pearl ammo): Is it 25% more damage than a normal Pearl ammo volley, 35% more, etc.?

    Critical Damage works the same way as Cannon Damage, but only when you get a Crit.

    When you get a Crit you get a base 20% Critical Damage, the avergage Crit Dmg from Cannons is added to this, your Aggression Trainer, Castle, Gems etc.

    Whatever your Critical Damage % is, is then added onto your total Cannon Damage %s (only when you get a crit). It does not effect the Extra Ball Damage from Ammo, or any AbsoluteDamage (from Cannons for example).

    A simple example, if you only had a 15% Cannon Damage Gem, no Critical Damage %s apart from the starting 20%, and using Elite Ammo and 30lb Cannons:
    Damage = CannonAmount * (Ammo Damage * (100% + CannonDamage%s + IF_CRIT(CriticalDamage%s)))
    = 339 * (75 * (100% + 15% + IF_CRIT(20%)))
    Without Critical
    = 339 * (75 * 115%)
    = 339 * 86.25
    = 29,238.75
    With Critical
    = 339 * (75 * 135%)
    = 339 * 101.25
    = 34,323.75

    Hopefully this simply example explains to you how Critical Damage works and how it is applied in the Damage Formula.

    Thanks Arky. Much appreciated. Now let me add these:

    (1) 30 pounders? Is that a typo?

    (2) What a mess this becomes. With a 15% Damage Prevention gem, then it cancels out the Cannon Damage. Jeepers.

    (3) Two questions: "Extra Ball Damage" - you are specifically referring here to Explosive ammo is 75, Heartbreaker ammo is 90, etc....am I correct? Secondly, what did you mean by "Absolute Damage (from Cannons for example)"?

    P.S. A note: The Aggression Trainer is supposed to add 5% more Critical damage. Yet with him, when I shoot hollows, my Criticals have soared by like 1,500. Significantly more than 5%...weird.

    Hey mate, im happy to answer these

    1)
    I chose 30lbs because I knew they did not have any Critical Damage bonuses, and for the example I didnt want to overcrowd it with too much unnecessary numbers. If it was Voodoo Cannons for instance, then it would be another 20% Critical Damage.

    2)
    Its not that complicated really. Its just a matter of Adding up all the Cannon Damage %s, then taking away the Damage Prevention %s of the target.

    3)
    A) Extra Ball Damage I am talking about any additional Damage an Ammo does. For instance Voodoo Ammo does 75 Base Ball Daamge, and 50 Extra Ball Damage. This is shown in your ammo menu by "75 + 50". Basically, any "+ #" is the Extra Ball Damage.

    B) Absolute Damage, I mean an amount of damage which is set, and is not increased by anything else. For instance, a Level 0 Doomhammer has 75 Pearl Damage - this is absolute as if you are using that cannon it will hit 75 damage regardless of your Cannon Damage %s or the targets Damage Prevention. Other examples include the Apatite Pet Special Gem, which gives you 1000 set damage, or the Manta League Buff which gives you 4000 set damage.

    I really appreciate your time and explanations mate. I see that your are referring to ammo such as Soul Eater Voodoo ammo (Damage: 50 to VP + 50 to HP
    Regeneration Voodoo: 50). Makes perfect sense. But on "Absolute Damage", are you saying a Level 0 Doomhammer hits 75 damage even if I have say a 15% Damage Gem? This I have never heard of before now.

  6. Soul eater is now 60 + 60 Des.

    I will leave this open until you are finished.

    Damage: 50 to VP + 50 to HP
    Regeneration Voodoo: 50

    Hi M-O (and still without a Life Preserver)!:) I got the above from the SF Bible. Are you saying it is now:
    Damage: 60 to VP + 60 to HP
    Regeneration Voodoo: 60
    .....or some other combination? Thank you.

    Yes, any damage provided by cannons does not get effected by any damage bonuses you or your target has, only by Hit Probability.

    AbsoluteDamage = (NumberOfCannonType1 * PearlBonusOfCannonType1) + (NumberOfCannonType2 * PearlBonusOfCannonType2)...
    Yes it is now 60 + 60 and regeneration of 60 :)

    Okay - I know I have worn you out and I do apologize. But let's say I have one Level 0 Doomhammer and one peanut boat and 10 rounds of Explosive Pearl ammo. And that's it. No skills, no castles, etc. but I do have one gem: a 15% Cannon Damage gem. Wouldn't I hit on an NPC 75 damage times 1.15% = 86.25?

    Not at all mate, I enjoy answering questions like these and happy to carry on doing so :)

    You are partially correct yes. You have to remember that a Level 0 Doomhammer gives you an additional 75 damage when using pearl ammunition, if it was a level 1 Doomhammer then this would change to 90 damage, etc. This is what is used in the AbsoluteDamage
    [IMG]

    CannonAmount = 1 (1x Level 0 Doomhammer)
    BaseBallDamage = 75 (Explosive Ammo is 75 Damage)
    DamagePercentages = 100% + 15% (Starting 100% + 15% from the Cannon Damage Gem)
    = 115%
    AbsoluteDamage = CannonAmount * EliteDamageBonus
    = 1 * 75 (1x Level 0 Doomhammer * 75 Elite Ammo Bonus the Doomhammer provides)
    = 75
    HitProbabiliy = 100% (for this lets just say 100% HitProb)

    Damage = ((CannonAmount * BaseBallDamage * DamagePercentages) + AbsoluteDamage) * HitProbability
    = ((1 * 75 * 115%) + 75) * 100%
    = ((86.25) + 75) * 100%
    = (161.25) * 100%
    = 161.25
    Hope my explanation is clear enough mate. Any more questions?

    It sank in finally. <---(An appropriate term for Seafight)! I do have one final quick question to finish this out: Almost same scenario above except no Damage Gem, just one peanut boat and one level FIVE Doomhammer. Would the damage be 75+75 = 150 (I got this from your old Spreadsheet), or is it 150 + 75 <-(Absolute Damage or a.k.a. "Elite Ammo Bonus") = 225 for one cannonball assuming a 100% hit probability?

  12. A-R-K-Y

    A-R-K-Y Forum Overlooker

    If you were using a Level 5 Doomhammer:

    CannonAmount = 1 (1x Level 5 Doomhammer)
    BaseBallDamage = 75 (Explosive Ammo is 75 Damage)
    DamagePercentages = 100% (Starting 100%)
    = 100%
    AbsoluteDamage = CannonAmount * EliteDamageBonus
    = 1 * 150 (1x Level 5 Doomhammer * 150 Elite Ammo Bonus the Doomhammer provides)
    = 75
    HitProbabiliy = 100%

    Damage = ((CannonAmount * BaseBallDamage * DamagePercentages) + AbsoluteDamage) * HitProbability
    = ((1 * 75 * 100%) + 150) * 100%
    = ((75) + 150) * 100%
    = (225) * 100%
    = 225

    So my second choice of 225 was correct! Wow....that's the proof right there of what makes them so powerful. If the same peanut boat had nothing but 339 Level 5 Doomhammers, no gems, skills, castles, etc., then it would average hitting 339 cannons (using your cannon total mentioned above) times 225 = 76,275 damage for a regular volley! No wonder loaded boats are hitting such high crits! Thanks Arky...you should get a Seafight Gold Medal for this thread! Much obliged mate. And thank you for all of your patience!:)

    You are most welcome mate, glad I could answer your questions :)

    P.S. A peanut boat could only hold a maximum of 281 Cannons out of 379 ;)
