    Ahoy

Damage Prevention blocks some of the damage that Players inflict on your ship. But, because of high Hit Probability (for example 140%) that many stronger ships have, it does not help much to block damage. While NPC's normally don't have that high Hit Probability Damage Prevention works much better, and blocks more damage.

To decrease damage you take from players I suggest using Dodge Gem on your Ship and Pet, aswell as Lvl 3 Agility Trainer (you can get from Treasure Chests), "Voodoo Mirage" in Voodoo Castle and "Smokescreen" buff.

If I sum up, Damage Prevention excels when you are being shot by NPC's, while Dodge Chance is particulary good when you are being shot by Players.

I hope you find the above useful.

    Hi Ejder,

I would actually disagree with Beorn here. From my understanding, Damage Prevention and Cannon Damage go hand in hand. When calculating damage dealt the target's Damage Prevention stat is taken away from the attacker's Cannon Damage stat. So for example, if you had 140% Cannon Damage in total and a player had 60% Damage Prevention then against that player you would have 140%-60% = 80% Cannon Damage.

The reason this is more visible on NPCs is that they did not have a Cannon Damage statistic until recently. That meant that if you had 100% Damage Prevention or more (which can be achieved with Brothers in Arms, high enough level gems and Super Armor Shields then NPCs would end up doing 0 damage to you or "missing" as it showed.

Hit Probability is then the chance each cannon has of hitting the target, and this is effected by the target's Dodge Chance in the same manner. Beorn is correct that Hit Probability and Dodge Chance have more effect in PvP situations than Cannon Damage and Damage Prevention do, but it is still very relevant nonetheless.

    I hope this helps

    Thanks and Merry Christmas
