    Can someone tell me where i can upgrade my ships with these gems because i'm kind of lost

    Ahoy,

    If you open up the world map, to the side you will see images that look like lighthouses, go to a map with these to the side and sail up to the west or east border and click map change. This will transport you to that map after 15 seconds of no interuption, and in the middle you will have an island which you can click that will allow you to configure your ship with gems. Also in this map you will find the event quest givers.
