    The story: This morning I came upon a longtime and well-known "serial cheater". He was botting a Map to get his Season Coins. I sank him eleven straight times and capped him for over eight billion in gold. He had a regular base of around 800,000 hit points. He never fired back. He came immediately back on the water every time...and proceeded to sail and shoot NPCs. So he could not claim he lost his connection or make excuses like that.

    And then he got on his boat. Suddenly (using the Light of Tortuga) his base went up to four million hit points and he sank me five times. (Which is fine with me, if you don't cheat to achieve that). I called him out in Chat (but did so politely) and he commented vaguely, knowing I had him "dead to rights". I don't need to ask Support to tell me whether or not he is cheating. I know he has, is, and will continue to, despite the scar debuff system!

    The comment: Bigpoint's failure to issue permanent lifetime bans continues to cripple this game. For many years, BP sided with the botters, and put the burden on the honest players to prove they were cheating! Now the company has turned the other cheek and champions "honest and fair gameplay". I would applaud this, but it is only because they finally *had to do something* due to the loss of revenue incurred from honest players quitting. I have enjoyed playing this game for a very long time. And I will continue to promote honest play, even though it makes the cheaters mad for me to post about it. I would rather be sunk honestly, than to chain-sink someone using dishonest means. In this game - as in Life - "the end does *Not* justify the means". And just because you can do something (i.e., cheat) does not mean you should do it.

    Ahoy The*Defiant!

    I can assure you that we are taking cheating very seriously, our developers are constantly working on improving our detection system (which can be seen by the latest amount of Scar users on the water), however it is not as easy as you may think - and most importantly it takes time.

    As you have been informed in previous thread if you notice any possible cheating or you have a second thought after being sunk simply forward such player to Support for further investigation - don't forget to include their user and server ID!

    Please be aware that calling players out in chat is a bannable offence.

    To prevent this thread from becoming bot discussion I shall now close.
