Returning to the game and trying to figure out what to do next.

Find as many quests as you can that pay off in Bolts. I came back only a few months ago and I've accumulated 505 Bolts (varying levels).

If your income is good, buy weapon slots and expansion slots in the ship's equipment tab. Search the store for high-level expansions that can be bought with the event's currency - bypassing the upgrading process. It'll be a slow process, but, it should cost a lot less in time and currency to upgrade your ship.

Develop your Captains - and, run as many missions as you can that pay off in yulongs and other more scarce currency. It'll take time to develop and promote captains, but, once you're set up, you can run several ships at a time to gain ammo, currency, etc.

Scour all of the events' quests, items for sale, etc. to see if you can find stuff reasonably priced. Also, always figure out if the rewards are worth the effort to obtain them. A lot of good stuff often appears in the "possible" section of the rewards section. If these rewards are rare to obtain, look for another quest that has better "guaranteed" rewards. Good luck.

Finally, take advantage of the season's quests. It takes a while for the payoff, but, you can still get some nice stuff during the 3-month-long event.
